Antarctic Soil Description and Classification Methods
The ANTPAS soils group have developed a manual to guide people in making descriptions of Antarctic soil materials. We would welcome any feedback you might have! Please email Megan Balks (m.balks@waikato.ac.nz) or Jim Bockheim (bockheim@wisc.edu) if you have any comments. The Gelisol soil classification, following the method of USDA Soil Taxonomy is included in the document below to guide people in classification of Antarctic soils. Again if you have any comments or suggestions please email Prof. Jim Bockheim at bockheim@wisc.edu
Borehole Permafrost Temperature Monitoring
Regional reviews on Southern Hemisphere permafrost and periglacial environments (1999)
Members of the IPA Southern Hemisphere WG (1998-2003) reviewed permafrost understanding, issues and current status for their respective regions. The resulting papers were presented at a special session during the XVth INQUA Congress, Durban, South Africa in 1999.
Publication of the papers was accepted by the South African Journal of Science following international refereeing in the January/February 2002 issue (Volume 98, Number 1-2).
The published reviews are available in pdf format:
