The Permafrost Young Researcher Network (PYRN) will be organising a 2-day workshop, open to all PYRN member, in conjunction with EUCOP5 (European Conference on Permafrost). The workshop will take place on June 23-24, 2018 at Chamonix (France) and all permafrost young researchers (current students or early career, within 6 years after their PhD) are invited to attend. If you are not yet a member of PYRN please join them through their online form. The workshop is kindly supported by UFA, IPA, IASC, Petzl, Nunataryuk project, Lions club and free of charge for the participants! There are also travel grants of up to EUR250 on offer to a limited number of participants. You can apply for a travel grant here - please apply by 15 January 2018.   In 2014 the International Permafrost Association (IPA) and the Climate and Cryosphere project (CliC) initiated a process to seek input on the definition of research priorities in the field of permafrost science. As many as 359 researchers from 37 countries submitted research questions and it is now time to collect your opinion on the relevance of the questions that were submitted. Questions were submitted by individuals primarily active in the fields of geomorphology, ecology, engineering and infrastructure. 79% of them had a PhD and 53.8% of them had more than 10 years of experience in permafrost research.
The survey consists of 347 questions organized in 20 categories. Please complete the permafrost survey, by 20 December, at http://www.surveygizmo.eu/s3/90050886/prp. . At the recent workshop in Varese it was decided to move ANTPAS from an Expert Group to a Research Program. So what is a Research Program? Scientific Research Programmes (SRPs) are major international scientific initiatives coordinated by SCAR, with the focus to addressing scientific questions that will require sustained efforts over 6-8 years. ANTPAS will do well within this, since it addresses crucial questions on Antarctic soils, permafrost environments, as well as the active layer. Furthermore, ANTPAS collaborates extensibvely with the biological sciences, since fauna and flora find their niches within Antarctic soils (as well as other environments, of course). AS such, ANTPAS can, as an SRP, address major, priority scientific issues of global or fundamental importance, at the cutting edge of the science, that will require substantial field-work and/or observations in the Antarctic to be successful. Abstract submission to Polar2018 has been extended to 12 November. The conference features 65 session that fall within 12 categories. Submit your abstract here. When you submit your abstracts, have a look at the four sessions either chaired or convened by ANTPAS members. When you submit your abstract to those sessions remember to mention ANTPAS in your abstract. We hope to see you all in Davos in 2018!

How do I become a member?
Anyone can become a member of ANTPAS and even better, the membership is also free of charge! Simply complete the membership applications form and we will add you to our email list.
HOW CAN ANTPAS HELP MY RESEARCH?
You can list your project(s) as one that contributes to one of ANTPAS objectives. In order to have your project considered as an ANTPAS project, you should send a request by email to the co-chairs with an abstract of the project objectives and expected outcomes.
HOW CAN I LINK MY PROJECT WITH ANTPAS?
The Steering Committee is able to provide a letter of support to project proposals showing excellent quality and clearly linked to ANTPAS objectives. An abstract of the project, with clearly stated objectives, including the list of project researchers and the top 5 publications by the team should be sent to the Steering Committee for evaluation, so that a letter is prepared.
HOW DO I ACKNOWLEDGE ANTPAS SUPPORT?
A reference to ANTPAS should be included in the acknowledgements in the papers to be published. If you are presenting at an ANTPAS-organised event or one that is affiliated with ANTPAS, or have received funding from ANTPAS to present your work at any event, please include the ANTPAS logo and SCAR logo in your presentation.
IS ANTPAS INTERNATIONALLY AFFILIATED?
ANTPAS IS an Expert Working Group of SCAR. SCAR fosters international collaboration and engagement and is an International Council for Science (ICSU)-affiliated body. The ICSU is a non-governmental organisation with a global membership of national scientific bodies and International Scientific Unions.
