ANTPAS Session at Polar2018

Antpas will hold a workshop at the upcoming POLAR2018 conference. The session will be held on 17 June from 12 AM to 3 PM at the Rinerhorn Room. All those interested in joining the workshop are welcome! The agenda follows below.

  1. Change of the Co-Chair (Welcome to the new Co-Chair Marc Oliva, Barcelona University; thanks to the past Co-Chair, Gonçalo Vieira, Lisbon University).
  2. Road map to becoming a Research Program under SCAR.
  3. Next South COP at Queenstown, December 2019 – Antpas contribution and the next Antpas meeting.
  4. New PPP Special Issue on Antarctic research.
  5. Various (update to the Antpas white paper decided at Varese; next meeting, website update).

SCAR Travel funds Awarded

ANTPAS would like to congratulate everyone who received a SCAR travel grant to attend the upcoming ANTPAS workshop, to be held in Varese, Italy on 4 and 5 October. Recipients from within Europe receive US$ 400, whereas recipients of the grant living outside of Europe receive US$ 750. Seven grants of US$750 were awarded, as were three of US$400. Recipients are listed below.

ANTPAS would like to thank the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) for making these funds available. Without their generous support attendance by students and emerging researchers at the workshop would not be possible.

Workshop Accommodation and Registration Reminder

The 1st international ANTPAS workshop is approaching fast! Abstracts have been accepted and a finalized program for the workshop will be published in due time. In the meantime participants are encouraged to pay the registration fee of € 100 before 1 September and to book their accommodation at the hotel of choice (Hotel Ungheria).

If you are joining us for the workshop and wish to only pay for attendance and none of the lunches and dinners to be provided, then registration will only be € 30. ANTPAS has also secured very favorable rates at Hotel Ungheria at € 74 for a single room per night, and € 85 for a double room per night.

We look forward to welcoming you at the Insubria University in Varese, Italy soon!

Have a look at the abstract template and if you haven’t registered for the workshop yet, you may still do so. Payment of fees is only due 1 September. 1st ANTPAS Workshop - Varese, Italy

The 1st International Workshop on Antarctic Permafrost, Periglacial Processes and Soils (ANTPAS) will take place in Varese, Italy on 4 and 5 October of this year. The theme of the workshop is “From an Expert Group to a Research Program” and abstracts are now being accepted. Both poster and oral presentation submissions are welcome and submissions close on 1 June 2017. An abstract template is available here and pre-registration can be done here before 1 September 2017. Abstract submission and pre-registration forms should be sent to the ANTPAS co-chair Mauro Guglielmin. For more information visit the SCAR website or read the First Circular & General Information Pamphlet.

    How do I become a member?
    Anyone can become a member of ANTPAS and even better, the membership is also free of charge! Simply complete the membership applications form and we will add you to our email list. ​
    HOW CAN ANTPAS HELP MY RESEARCH?
    You can list your project(s) as one that contributes to one of ANTPAS objectives. In order to have your project considered as an ANTPAS project, you should send a request by email to the co-chairs with an abstract of the project objectives and expected outcomes.
    HOW CAN I LINK MY PROJECT WITH ANTPAS?
    The Steering Committee is able to provide a letter of support to project proposals showing excellent quality and clearly linked to ANTPAS objectives. An abstract of the project, with clearly stated objectives, including the list of project researchers and the top 5 publications by the team should be sent to the Steering Committee for evaluation, so that a letter is prepared.
    HOW DO I ACKNOWLEDGE ANTPAS SUPPORT?
    A reference to ANTPAS should be included in the acknowledgements in the papers to be published. If you are presenting at an ANTPAS-organised event or one that is affiliated with ANTPAS, or have received funding from ANTPAS to present your work at any event, please include the ANTPAS logo and SCAR logo in your presentation.
    IS ANTPAS INTERNATIONALLY AFFILIATED?
    ANTPAS IS an Expert Working Group of SCAR. SCAR fosters international collaboration and engagement and is an International Council for Science (ICSU)-affiliated body. The ICSU is a non-governmental organisation with a global membership of national scientific bodies and International Scientific Unions.
