International Permafrost Association (IPA)
International Permafrost Association has as its objectives to foster the dissemination of knowledge concerning permafrost and to promote cooperation among persons and national or international organizations engaged in scientific investigation and engineering work on permafrost.
International Polar Year (IPY)
The International Polar Year was a large scientific programme focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic from March 2007 to March 2009. The IPY, organized through the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), was the fourth polar year, following those in 1882-3, 1932-3, and 1957-8. In order to have full and equal coverage of both the Arctic and the Antarctic, IPY 2007-8 covered two full annual cycles from March 2007 to March 2009 and involved over 200 projects, with thousands of scientists from over 60 nations examining a wide range of physical, biological and social research topics. ​
International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS)
The International Union of Soil Sciences is the global union of soil scientists. The objectives of the IUSS are to foster all branches of the soil sciences and their applications, and to give support to soil scientists in the pursuit of their activities. This website provides information for IUSS members and those interested in soil science and related fields.
IUSS Cryosol Working Group
The Working Group develops new classification units for permafrost-affected soils for the Northern Circumpolar Soil Database.
Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR)
Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research is an inter-disciplinary committee of the International Council for Science (ICSU). In addition to carrying out its primary scientific role, SCAR also provides objective and independent scientific advice to the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings and other organizations on issues of science and conservation affecting the management of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. SCAR meets every two years to conduct its administrative business at the SCAR Delegates Meeting.
SCAR Expert Group on Permafrost and Periglacial Environments (Archive)
The overarching aim of this expert group is to raise the profile of Antarctic permafrost science within the SCAR community and to provide SCAR with a stronger information base about the role of permafrost in the Antarctic Environment.
